She specialized in civil and appellate litigation.Burke also served as the first woman president of the Ohio State Bar Association, from 1993 to 1994, and led a successful campaign to have the state Supreme Court establish contribution limits in judicial campaigns.She most recently was appointed in 2009 to serve as executive director of the Ohio Lottery Commission.UA gets grantAKRON: The University of Akron was among colleges and community colleges in Ohio to receive $215,000 in grants from Dominion Resources.The grants, ranging from $10,000 to $30,000, were awarded at a ceremony at the University of Akron on Thursday and will support programs in conservation, alternative energy, environmental and technical studies and minority retention programs.The University of Akron was awarded $25,000 to develop a Corrosion and Reliability Modeling and Simulation Lab where students will learn how to manage corrosion, increase safety and reduce the costs of corrosion effects.“Dominion is privileged to support college-level learning,” said Virginia M. The man had used a bedsheet and tied it to a bunk. Medical personnel revived the man and he is in stable condition at Akron General Medical Center.The man, an Akron resident, was brought into the jail Saturday on charges of illegal manufacture of drugs and illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.He showed no signs of being suicidal when he was screened by jail staff, Holland said.Death an accidentAn Akron teen whose body was recovered Wednesday from the Cuyahoga River died as the result of an accidental drowning, according to an autopsy.Davion McCail, 16, suffered no injuries to his body, a spokesman for the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday afternoon.Davion drowned Wednesday afternoon while swimming in the river with a friend near the Doodlebug Bridge on Bailey Road in Cuyahoga Falls. At some point, the teen struggled and went under the water. Rescue crews recovered his body about 45 minutes later.The Rhoden Memorial Home is handling funeral arrangements
